frankenwhat!?

2021 was the official year I created a design studio named Frankenstipple. If you’re here, I bet you already know this but you may be wondering: Frankenwhat!?

Choosing a name was a lot harder than I thought it would be. I actually started with Alexis Morin design but I just wasn’t feeling it. There’s absolutely nothing wrong with using your name for your business, but I wanted something to detach myself a bit more and held a quirky personality.

For those interested, here’s my process for choosing a name:

Step 1:

Brainstorm any and every word possible that relates to me and a creative business.

Step 2:

Transfer the ones I liked most to notecards and start matching up different cards to get mash-up ideas. My fave at this point was already Frankenstipple. It mashed up my dog’s name and an illustration/painting technique that I loved. And, it really captured the quirky and artsy feel I was missing in alexis morin design.

Step 3:

Choose 2-3 of my faves. I was between Lexo Design Co and Frankenstipple

Step 4:

Google like crazy. See who has similar names. Most importantly, figure out if the domain and social handles are available.

Step 5:

Hopefully by this point there is a clear winner. In my case, I got lucky and Frankenstipple had basically no internet trail!
